Old house plant books are handy for starting an investigation to look for the most current name. A energetic dyi person might love to have it.

I used to own a book called "The Houseplant Expert" and it showed pictures of both, one for the 'Silver Philodendron' and one for the 'Silver Pothos,' respectively. In a north window with roof over porch outside.

There has been a lot of confusion until geneticists started sorting these plants out. Because juvenile leaves can be wildly different in size and shape from the mature form ones, some that are actually identical were thought to be different plants. I'm new to philodendron but the care looks almost identical. They help us tremendously in trying to diagnose problems.

Haven't had any trouble on Scindapsus but you can see some sunburn on the Philos in pic below. I have these two in pots that drain but have those pots sitting in decorative pots that do NOT drain. From there choose a couple that are promising, buy samples and see what you think. Its epithet, pictus, means painted, which it earned due to the gorgeous, silvery patches of variegation that are splashed across its leaves.

Begs the question what kind of soil are you using, when was it last changed? Light grays also are very lavender and read blue a lot so that can be very tricky. Any common name one prefers is fine, there's no right or wrong with those.

Scindapsus Pictus Argyraeus is commonly confused with Scindapsus Pictus Exotica because they both have silver patterns on their leaves. You have a huge counter. Philodendron/Pothos/Scindapsus vines hardly ever make side branches unless the tip is removed.

With or without any books, trying to keep track of changing taxonomy can be mind-boggling and time-consuming. I love photos because it's so easy to care for. Cutting the very tip leaf isn't quite enough. Snipping the tip of each will inspire each vine to make side branches as well.

It has beautiful "silver" coloring on the leaves and the texture of the leaves are like velvet.

That plant is The last plant I researched in this section is the one that I find most confusing. Rooftop, they seem happy together to me, same spots/care. I can't wait to "thicken" these up with the cuttings I have.That's great you got the cuttings to root--I agree, they don't root all that readily. They can tolerate lower light, but will not grow much.If you prefer to water before the leaves curl, then watering should happen only when the potting mix has been allowed to dry out completely. "neither makes cataphylls, the modified leaves/leaf-sheaths which I understand are the characteristic feature of philos.

On mine, the leaves curl from cold as well as from soil issues. I switched to white Corian and love it, but it is a little pricey and I was only able to do the island. Have you considered installing the light fixture (the original one) with the lights pointing upward so that it doesn't intrude on the med cab space?I purchased a philodendron silver about 3 months ago, repotted it with potting soil, but I have not seen any growth. Adding to the name confusions over juvenile-mature foliage change that purple mentions, there is a cultivar of Philo mamei called 'Silver Cloud,' and I've seen both Philo sodoroi and Philo glaucaphyllum referred to as "silver philo." Mine is Exotic Angel, and has identical leaves to CJ's. I forgot to say, in that pic, I actually cut off 2 nodes since the one already had a missing leaf and I didn't want to leave such a long, naked thing sticking out.

We did that in part of my kitchen and it is really pretty but not nearly as nice as what you have now.

The first thing to come mind is a water problem....which is usually the case.Sopping soil might never dry out but instead begin to rot the roots---which then, cant take up any more water and instead sits there.....the bottom leaves usually are the first sign of such. They used to do it visually, and with measurements'n'such, observations.
