It is always better to use the special cleaner that they sell in electronic stores just for flat screen tv's and monitors. If you have STREAKS on the surface then use a microfiber cloth.

Windex cannot paint your screen. Every LCD panel has a coating on top of the actual screen, this is what is damaged. Ammonia and alcohol-based cleaners may strip coatings off and you probably don't need a cleaning agent, anyway.

I did and came off. I cleaned off quickly with  water but it's left some dull areas where I assume the windex has stuffed up a coating on the screen or the plastic itself.
