They should be raise by a parent that can pick a safe place to raise them. my brother brought me 3 killdeer eggs (was going to take them back but cant find the nest) The nest is really hard to see. A pair of killdeers laid a nest of 4 eggs in my backyard.

I have 3 dogs that like to chase the killdeer, and I'm not sure what happened to the 3 babys but they and the parents are gone. Killdeer are one of the hardest birds to raise, if you don't know what you are doing it will surely die. Our wildlife group has taken them in, if you look at them funny, make a loud noise, handle them, they die. The family unit stays together for several weeks.Killdeer chicks grow rapidly, requiring huge amounts of food, but the chick you found has probably already imprinted on its parents and needs to be with them in order to recognize food and to eat.The best thing to do is to bring the chick back and search for the adults. You would also need to rotate the egg every 2 hours.
It is a Game and Fish violation too. Within minutes of hatching, they imprint on their parents and follow them tenaciously. Teach them to forage? Just to let you know. Those birds that lay their eggs in a soccer field shouldn't hatch. pretty selfish... sorry if I sound harsh, just my opinion I suppose.No Im going to take them to a wildlife place after they hatch.
You should set the chick down and leave as quickly as possible.

I agree with PortageGirl. But I digress... We have/had, and have again, a killdeer nest in the middle of our driveway with 4 eggs. Baby Killdeer, like baby ducks, geese, and other fowl, are what we call “precocial chicks.” These chicks hatch out of the egg covered with thick down, open their eyes quickly, and are perfectly capable of walking. It's survival of the fittest.
can you regurgitate what they need to have to survive? You could be right up on it and not see it.Yea, the only way you know you are close to a killdeer nest is because mama is makes an unholy racket and tries to lure you away.
show them how to avoid their natural predators? Killdeer Care. Those ducks are there because people are feeding them in the park.
