Luigi LOIR - EXPOSITIONS UNIVERSELLES DE PARIS
Carthering together is a human reflex. The growth of industry together with the desire and need to exchahge knowledge and goods led to the organisation of national and international exhibitions and world fairs which were displays emphasising the progress and achievements of the participating nations.
The first World Fair was organised in London in 1851. Atradition was born. New York as well as well as many European cities followed, notably Paris in 1855 and again in 1889 to celebrate the centenary of the Franch Revolution. The Effel Tower was erected and electricity was the theme of the exhibition.
Luigi Loir drew an aerial map of the fair which was commissioned by the `chemins de fer du nord` (railways).
He illustrated the cover of the official exhibition catalogue of the Paris Fair in 1900: ``Exposition de Paris 1900`` and ``Encyclopedie du siècle``. |
