The characters spell out every single thought they have, which makes them speak in a lot of "A-ha!"
Dantes, a sailor who is falsely accused of treason by his best friend Fernand, who wants Dantes' girlfriend Mercedes for himself. In prison, Edmund befriends an old monk named Abbe Faria who tutors Edmund in finance, science, and other upper-crust pursuits when not teaching him how to fence. This made me wonder why he had to dig a tunnel for eight years in order to escape. Fernand succeeds in marrying Mercedes a mere two months after Edmund's detention (there's a "good" explanation later on for this move on her part) and they have a son named Albert shortly thereafter. In fact, Valentine, who was the daughter of police prefect Villefort in the novel, has now become Valentina, Villefort's ambitious, hen-pecking wife. I am truly stunned that such a flawed screenplay could soar so quickly through the development process. THE COUNT OF MONTE CRISTO was a project that I was sincerely hoping to enjoy.
