Sure, the place serves eggs, but also books, scones and knitting needles? Not bad. Below is a list of Laura Childs’ books in order of when they were first released: While this sounds interesting, it was way too much. by Berkley Prime Crime Suzanne's husband was a physician and member of some of the town planning boards; now he's retroactively accused of taking bribes and Suzanne is told that she may have to pay $2,000,000 in restitution. Mind you that I thought that the climax seemed a bit rushed and that while there is foreshadowing of who the culprit is, it was not clear how the culprit performed other tasks without being positively identified by more characters. They may not even all "lose" their husbands in the same way, but there is something about a good friend or two that makes things easier to deal with. She wrote her first short story at the young age of 6 titled George the Ghost, and she didn’t stop ever since. She would read adult books even as a small child, but since she couldn’t take out crime mystery books from the library, she would ask her mom to pick them for her. I have wanted to read this one for some time and finally got around to it. Laura Childs' other two series are not among my favorites, but this series opener promises better things. I was expecting this to be like the author's other series, Sometimes women lose their husbands and need shoulders to lean on. I'll read the next book in the series because I usually like this author, but so far I'm a much bigger fan of the Tea Shop series than of the Cackleberry Club. Nothing is seemingly thought out by the main character, and no one really calls her on it. Suzanne, Petra and Toni were keeping the town of Kindred fed, read and warm (with providing knitting classes and supplies for sale as well as an awesome cafe and bookstore.) The three ladies that run the Cacleberry Club are a hoot. While this sounds interesting, it was way too much. "Definitely worth a read--sitting at the counter of your favorite breakfast joint!" Don't you love the titles?I like cozy mystery books. I was really puzzled by the egg metaphors the author is using for this series. There wasn't anything that one wouldn't do for the other. Then their cozy cafe becomes the scene of a crime when a lawyer dies with a secret on his lips and egg on his face. The only thing I was disappointed in was that there weren't more recipes listed for all the egg dishes mentioned in the story!A good read for a long airplane/car trip if all else that they were selling in the gift shop was James Patterson books. I get hungry reading this book. Suzanne, Toni, and Petra are best friends and coworkers, they run the charming Cackleberry Club together, and besides baking and cooking, brewing coffee and tea they also run a book club and a yarn shop, often housing tea parties and gatherings for special occasions. This first book in this series was about three women who lose their husbands in various ways (one is still living, but in a home), and they run a restaurant, bookshop, and various other projects. Toni was such a hoot, and I definitely will say she's my favorite character. "Entertainment at its finest, with murder, mystery, and mayhem running through the swiftly turning pages. :) I'm glad I did. I apologize, in advance, for my review being a bit scattered, but Eggs in Purgatory is, itself, chaotic. I could see myself at this restaurant, wishing there was a real one in my city.My first reading Laura Childs. But this was too cozy and it read more like a commercial.. When the widow, Suzanne, finds her lawyer's dead body behind the Club, they become enmeshed in a far-reaching mystery. Laura Childs is the New York Times bestselling author of the Tea Shop Mysteries, the Scrapbooking Mysteries, and the Cackleberry Club Mysteries. A young woman from a nearby religious cult has some connection to the dead lawyer and her file along with that of Suzanne's late husband were stolen from the lawyer's office. For being one of the main characters, I struggled to like her. Loved the Eggs in Purgatory recipe. For an "avid" fan of mysteries and true crime stories, the detective here does things that, while creating suspense for the reader, seem to be dangerous if not counterproductive when investigating a crime. Small-town Minnesota setting. This is another series that I'm so glad I started from the beginning! I still use a five star rating system (or with cozies I like to think instead of stars how many cups of coffee/tea.….which is my idea of cozy). I also found the language a bit crude.
