Other advice says to be sure to hit the thing on the underside because hitting the shell only causes it to lose half its torpor. i knocked mine out with my frog its was the only way i could get it to work

The way we tame them without a quetzy is to clear all the other wilds out, then go up and punch the Doed, then run around while he is aggroed on you and shoot it's feet. Aim for the head with the darts and spread your shots out by 5-10 seconds. If you do not then the torpor gain vs damage input from the arrows doesnt balance out and they lose to much HP and curl up. With Doedi you have to actually wait about 10s between shots with the bow to allow the torpor to increase fully before the next shot. Xbows just deal too much damage, causing the doed to curl up.
