in a condo next to the woods and see a fisher a few times a year.
With all these noises I have never had any fear of the nature around me. very well could be a fisher. While much of this sound like old wives’ tales the incidents that happen every year across United States give real evidence that the animals are deadly predators.Usually the one off sound means that the Fisher cat animal is either closing on a hunt or has already killed its victim.Next time you hear these haunting sounds make sure that all your pets are indoors and that you comfort your children and not let them get too scared by the sound.Fisher cat screeches are often mistaken for red fox cries. i saw them at dusk, and then at 11:00 am the following day. We have an abundance of both Red and Gray Foxes, as well as bobcats. Photograph it.
I was sitting out late at night watching fire crakers as we celebrate Canada Day the 1st of July, but continue on the next few days. (BTW, the 1st photo they had at the top of the page was of a mink. This was around 11 am…thought they only came out at night? A neighbor said she heard noise in her yard one night and he was playing with her cat. The Fisher Cat is a nocturnal animal and the most Fisher cat screams and Fisher Cat screeches can be heard at night. Yeah, and Great-horned Owls fly away with 30 lb. I’ll have to get a tape of them one day. These are all mostly fox sounds. It is possible that fishers make similar sounds, and if that is the case, someone will eventually get it on video….mary beth, You need to get into your head you most are wrong! Whatever this was, was huge too, as the screams were coming from higher above ground, and if it were a fox or something, it would have been lower to the ground. Anyway, you have no idea how much I would love to whip out a shot gun and kill this guy. This is what people like to say about foxes and coyotes too … or other animals they don’t understand and wan’t to demonize. That night I did not see anything, but after a couple of minutes listeneing to that noise, and my heart beat (LOL), it sounded like it flew, as in fly, away. This is definitely a guy crapping poop out of his A.Oh man you rule. He was rummaging in our garbage bags! VERY scary noises, makes you really creeped out. We just had one putting on a 20 minute “aria” one lot over from us, and it is just as advertised: almost human sounding distressed screeching or screaming.
The screech itself sounds like a woman or a child screaming at a high pitch and calling out for help. He lived because he pressed himself against the house and the owl couldn’t get an angle on him to pick him up.Saw one in my backyard at 6am the other day was going to put the dog out.
Unusual and more severe storm and weather patterns are part of climate change (“global warming”), which is due to the human induced increase in greenhouse gases. Take care…We found 2 of our hens decapitated, another with it’s ribs showing that we had to put down and one of our ducks missing. Makes my heart stop! Anne, how do you know the fishers were mating?mary beth-hostile? Unless you live in a very dense suburban or city environment, there are dangers to your cat beyond fishers — the scapegoats. And, FYI, 30% of amphibians, 12% of birds, 28% of reptiles, 38% of freshwater fish, and 70% of the world’s plants….are all endangered. The neighborhood cats went missing we found just a round ball of his fur in a circular outline?? Guess what?!?!
These ‘barks’ are much too raspy to be coming from a dog. Thankfully the vast majority of humans would reject your perspective.mary beth, you have done a magnificent job with your accuracy and efforts to educate those who are needlessly fearful and for those who just don’t get it. They are like foxes and coyotes in that they are given an unwarranted and severely distorted reputation when they are so afraid of humans and are, in fact, muxh more scared of us than we are of them. thanks for your helpif you probably have a small caliber rifle you could send your daughter away for the night and see if you could shoot itI heard the same noise every night for a while – then one night, I heard it and it was getting closer, and closer, and closer — so I looked around the corner of the house and this sound was coming from a COYOTE!!
You will defenatly know it when you hear it. Im in Cumberland RI. If there were 30 lb fishers, as she estimates, we trackers would be seeing much larger tracks, and trappers would be capturing some of these giants.
COMMENT ON 2/27 2012.We live in The Flats in Winchester, MA, and we saw one walking along our fence in the back of our backyard one early evening in August 2010. I feel for anyone who has encountered these things my husband was combining oats yesterday and stirred up a whole family of them during the day, large family I might add.Wish I had thought to record it! HUGE fisher cat! I really think in most cases people are assuming that what they have heard is a fisher, because they saw a fisher in the area at one time or another, when in reality the sounds are made by something else. It is sporadic, goes on for anywhere from 10 minutes to an hour or longer. Until someone can provide proof that they do, we can only assume that claims of fisher screaming are nothing more than urban legend. Many other creatures scream at night: mating bobcats, mating house cats, rabbits (when frightened or attacked by predators), foxes, and owls. They are no more likely to eat your pet ducks than a possum or a fox. They are Mustelids related to Mink and Weasels. My neighbor says there used to be a lot of them around here, but I think there still are unfortunatelyRob from RI: Which sound clip was it like? it is rude unnecessary and makes you looks like kids. are all different. Fishers are members of the weasel family and have the same long thin body type, although Fishers are stockier and heavier than typical weasels. i jump off the toilet seat.two nights ago, my friends were outside my patio smoking and I was inside with others watching a movie, and then they came running inside and started yelling that there was an animal eating another animal and making the freakiest sounds ever. She is strictly an indor cat. We use to see 50 to 75 turkeys at our feeders every day for years till the fishers showed up. They are a beautiful creature, from afar.
