The story builds slowly and the ending was something I didn’t quite expect. I hope everyone will honour the no spoilers request and not give away this novels secrets. I hold nothing against them and you are welcome to adore them. He directs his writing to an unknown boy in a photo that Griz found. This dedication to protecting what remains is what drives the narrative as one of his dogs is stolen by a travelling trader, and Griz instinctively chases the thief from his home in the Outer Hebrides to the mainland of the United Kingdom.

This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.I don’t read a lot of apocalyptic type books but I found the premise behind this one very interesting, they call it, The Gelding, the loss of the natural instinct to procreate. I picked up this book on audio because of the title and because a few trusted blogger friends convinced me with their reviews.

I do not think receiving the book for free affected my reaction to it.First, the usual Caveat. Fletcher’s irresistible story is a page-turning bildungsroman filled with adventure. Griz’ narrative voice is utterly compelling and the story is fascinating and beautifully crafted.Don’t start “A Boy and His Dog at the End of the World”, by C.A. C.A Fletcher's dystopian debut (under this nom de guerre) will touch readers of all ages and all persuasions with its movingly powerful message and lyrical narrative.
